How the cabins are built

First of all forget chalets, forget mobile homes, forget statics

Traditional Log Cabins have a quality to them that leaves these way behind.

All are made from specially-selected spruce from eastern Europe - and every tree cut down is replaced so its green credentials are second to none. They are transported here and put up by highly-skilled professionals with many years experience building wooden homes in Europe.

The work is supervised by a master craftsman from Yorkshire, Stuart Wheelwright, who has more than 40 years experience in the high class joinery trade. Stuart has constructed everything from specialist tailor-made wooden conservatories right up to a two-year project to upgrade the interior of one of Yorkshire's largest country houses.

The entire building work for our Traditional Log Cabins takes around five weeks once the concrete base and damp-proof insulation layer is ready.

The insulation in the wall leaves its rivals far behind.

  • The outer wall is made from 90mm thick spruce log with a large cavity wall space that's packed with thermal insulation.
  • Just inside the spruce is a vapour permeable membrane.
  • Then there is 150mm-thick mineral wool.
  • This is followed by another vapour permeable membrane.
  • The ceiling and tiled roof are also well-insulated, both thermally and acoustically. The tiles can be ceramic or cement.
  • The floor has the same vapour permeable membrane and insulation.
  • The interior walls can be wood or plasterboard and then skimmed - you decide!
  • The homes come with outside wooden patio complete with non-slip decking and balustrade. Just walk straight onto it through the french doors in the lounge.

Traditional Log Cabins are solid structures and the internal furnishings are top quality. The floors could be wood, tiled or carpeted and the walls can be wood, tiled, painted or wallpapered.

When it comes to doors, well the choice is yours, but most opt for solid wood and the tilt-and -turn double-glazed windows can even be protected with shutters.

The homes conform to quality certificate EC-PLANT PASPORT F1/PITK/5538 which is required within the European Union.

The wood also has FSC Certificate number SGS-FM/COC-806 and EGS-FM/COC-0686 relating to forestry conservation.

The superior insulation in the walls means that your Traditional Log Cabin will always retain its natural environment, making it cosy and warm in winter and coolin summer.
